The Sure Hope of His Coming
“In My Father’s House are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto Myself” (John 14:2,3).
The Lord, just prior to His crucifixion, gave the Apostles, and us, this Promise. He will return for His church prior to the judgment that awaits this world. That judgment is called the Great Tribulation and will bring great destruction on the Earth. It is the time of God’s judgment on a world that has rejected His gracious offer of Salvation and Eternal Life in His Presence. The church will be Raptured ahead of this 7 year period and will be in Heaven with the Lord.
“For God has not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain Salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Thessalonians 5:9).
Judgment comes to those that have not come by faith in the Lord and have turned their back on all the Lord offers. The church will not go through this judgment because their sin was judged at the Cross. The Lord has not appointed the church, His living body of believers, to wrath. Jesus paid the penalty for the sins of all those who place their faith in His sacrificial death at Calvary. The wrath of God will come to all those who have not come His way. His coming for us is the next prophetic event on the calendar and could happen at any moment at the last “Trump of God.”
“For the Lord Himself shall descend from Heaven with a shout, with the Trump of God: and the dead in Christ will rise first: then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words” (1 Thessalonians 4:16-18).
We can know that, prior to the Great Tribulation, the Lord will come for us just as he promised. This is the Rapture of the church. When He comes for us we will be caught up to meet Him in the air. He will not come all the way to Earth at this time. The Second Coming will see Him come back to Earth at the Mount of Olivet in great Glory. We are encouraged and comforted to know that what the Lord has promised will come about exactly as He has said. It is called the “Blessed Hope.”
“Looking for that Blessed Hope, and the Glorious appearing of the Great God and our Savior Jesus Christ” (Titus 2:13).
Our Lord’s return is a sure hope for all those who call upon His Name. We are in the last days now with all the signs of His soon return happening all around us. The Rapture will happen “in a moment, in the blink of an eye.” Those left behind will have to go through the worst time in the history of the world. Today is the Day of Salvation. The Lord has forewarned us regarding what is soon to come. Our closing verse, from the Gospel of Matthew, is a warning regarding the coming of a time of intense distress never equaled in the history of God’s dealings with this world.
“For there will be great tribulation, such as has not been from the beginning of the world until now, no, and never will be” (Matthew 24:21).
