The Coming of the Promised Redeemer

“And I will put enmity between you (Satan) and the woman, and between your seed (all those that go Satan’s way) and her Seed ( the Lord Jesus Christ); He shall bruise your head (at the Cross), and you will bruise His heel (Christ’s sufferings at Calvary)” (Genesis 3:15 comentary mine).
Adam and Eve had just sinned against the Lord in partaking of the fruit of the Tree of Good and Evil. As the Lord had warned, the result would be spiritual and physical death. But the Lord did not leave them there, He promised them that a Redeemer would come to restore fellowship with Him. In our introductory verse, the Lord is telling Satan, and us, how He would bring this about. The Lord provided Adam and Eve with “coats of skin” showing them that without the shedding of blood, a type of Christ and His sacrificial death at Calvary, there’s no forgiveness of sin. It was the promise of a Redeemer that would come and pay the sin debt owed and restore fellowship with the Lord. The Lord was showing them, and all that came after them, the need for a blood sacrifice for sin- all pointing to its fulfillment in Christ.
All those that came after Adam and Eve were aware of what the Lord required. Blessings came to those who followed after the Lord and placed their faith in the coming Redeemer. All those that did not respect the Grace the Lord showed to all those who would believe and follow, went the way of Satan. Cain and Abel are an example of this. Abel offered up the right sacrifice, a blood sacrifice, and it was accepted by the Lord. Cain offered “the fruit of the ground” and his offering was not accepted. In Abel’s sacrifice we see that his faith was in the coming Redeemer. In Cain’s sacrifice we see that he was requiring that the Lord accept the fruit of his labor. In these two men, we see all those that came afterward. Those that realize their need for Redeemer, and those that have chosen to go their own way believing that their works will suffice to gain favor with the Lord.
From the time of Adam and Eve until the coming of the Redeemer, all those who believed the Lord and sought to go His way, placed their faith in the coming Redeemer through the sacrificial system. This would include Noah, Abraham, Moses, David, and all those men and women of faith in the Old Testament. They looked forward to the One Who would “bruise the head” of Satan, laying down His life for all those who have looked for His coming.
In the fullness of time, God sent the long awaited Redeemer, God in the flesh, in the form of a baby in a manger in Bethlehem. His birth in that manger was a night divine. As we look back on this blessed event that came about some two thousand years ago, we are in awe of a God that would love us enough to put on flesh, live among us, and die on the Cross to restore the fellowship that was lost by our original parents. His Grace shines through all this, and shows us our way to all the blessings that the Lord has for all those who love Him and place their faith in His provision of Salvation. Oh night divine, when the gift of God’s love was manifested for all to see. An angel announced His coming to the shepards that night, with the Angel and multitude of the Heavenly Host giving glory to God.
“For unto you is born this day a Savior, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; you shall find the Baby wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the Angel a multitude of the Heavenly Host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on Earth peace, good will toward men” (Luke 2: 11-14).
