Take With You Words

The Path That Leads to the Lord

“Take with you words, and turn to the Lord: say unto Him, Take away all iniquity, and receive us graciously: so will we render the calves of our lips” (Hosea 14:2).

How do we approach the Lord? What must we do to gain favor with the Lord? We are told in our introductory verse how the Lord wants us to approach Him. It is not by what we do, but by our words. We are to come in repentance and faith.

“That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved” (Romans 10:9).

Salvation is not something that we must strive for our whole life not knowing if we have gained it by the time we pass from this life. Salvation is a free gift offered to us when we come in repentance and faith in Christ’s sacrificial death at Calvary. It cost God greatly in the death of His Son that we might be forgiven and counted among the redeemed. We can know that we are saved. The Apostle John made it clear in his first Epistle.

“These things have I written unto you who believe on the Name of the Son of God; that you may know that you have Eternal Life, and that you may believe on the Name of the Son of God” (1 John 5:13)

The Lord will always forgive, and receive, all those who come to Him in repentance and faith. Our introductory verse comes from the chapter in the book of Hosea that called for Israel to return to the Lord after falling into deep sin, and points to Israel’s restoration at the coming time of the Lord’s Second Coming. All Israel will be saved at that time.

We are to take with us words when we approach the Lord. Our repentance and our confession of faith in Christ crucified opens the way to God and brings us Salvation. We turn to Him in faith and He will “take away all iniquity.” Our sins will be forgiven and forgotten by the Lord.

“As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us. (Psalm 103:12)

When we come to the Lord with the words that will result in our Salvation, we come away in awe of such a great God. The Lord has been so gracious to us in forgiving us and giving us a blessed future in His presence. His Mercy and Grace in our lives will result in our thankfulness and love for the Lord who loved us and died on the Cross that we might be forgiven and brought into relationship with our Redeemer God. We then live the life we have been given with worship, praise, and thankfulness for all the Lord has done for us. Let us offer the “calves of our lips” in praise for all the Lord has done for us. It truly is amazing Grace.

“Enter His gates with thanksgiving, and into His Courts with praise: be thankful unto Him, and bless His Name” (Psalm 100:4).
