God’s Ultimatum

Hear Him Because Eternity Is Forever!

God’s Way

Ultimatum – A demand which, if not met, will result in some serious consequences.

The Lord has given all of mankind an ultimatum and He has plainly laid it out in His Word. He loves us and wants the best for us, but we must go His way. We are a fallen race unable to save ourselves from the judgment of a righteous God against sin. The Lord proved His love for us by His sacrificial death on the cross. This paid the sin debt owed to God.

“For the wages of sin is death (eternal death), but the Gift of God is Eternal Life through Jesus Christ our Lord (Jesus paid the price for our sin on the cross)” (Romans 6:23).

The Gospel shows us the Lord’s love towards us and the grace He offers to whomsoever will come to Him in repentance and faith. He reaches down in love that no one would perish.

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Begotten Son (to die on the cross to redeem us), that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have Everlasting Life” (John 3:16).

The Gospel is an invitation to all, but it is also an ultimatum. If we choose to reject all that the Lord has graciously offered to us, then we will die in our sins and reap eternal punishment. We will be out of the presence and blessing of God for all eternity. These are strong words, but they are the truth of God’s Word. Jesus said the following to the Pharisees:

“And you will not come to Me, that you might have life” (John 5:40).

“I said therefore unto you, that you shall die in your sins: for if you believe not that I am He, you shall die in your sins” (John 8:24).

Sadly, the religious leaders of Israel rejected their long-awaited Messiah. The words of Jesus spoken here are not only for them but are meant for all those that will not come to the Lord in repentance and faith from that time to this. The Lord commands that all believe that Jesus was the Messiah (Savior) and that He paid the price owed for the sin of all mankind, as the following verse tells us:

“The times of ignorance (before the cross) God overlooked (withheld judgment), but now He commands all people everywhere to repent” (Acts 17:30).

God’s ultimatum is to accept His Way of salvation or suffer eternal loss. If we reject His love then He has no choice but to render judgment on us based on our righteousness. The following verses tell us how the Lord views our condition outside of His salvation:

“There is none righteous, no not one: there is none who understands, there is none who seek after God. For all have sinned, and come short of the Glory of God” (Romans 3:10,11,23).

Mankind is spiritually dead and will not, and can not, seek God. The Lord draws us by His Holy Spirit and we are born spiritually by our faith in the salvation the Lord has provided. The Lord calls out to all those that will hear through His Word.

“Turn to Me and be saved, all the ends of the Earth; for I am God, and there is no other” (Isaiah 45:22)

The Lord is jealous for our good. He has done all He can to rescue us from our hopeless state. He reaches out in love and it is not the Lord’s will that any should be lost. But the Gospel is the only way to salvation. Reject the Gospel and we reject the God that loves us and gave his life as proof of that love.

“Come unto Me (Jesus), all you who are heavy laden (without salvation), and I will give you rest (comes by faith in Christ and the salvation He provided by His sacrificial death on the cross)” (Matthew 11:28).
