The Children of Disobedience

“And you has He (Christ) quickened (made spiritually alive), who were dead in trespasses and sins; wherein in times past you walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now works in the children of disobedience” (Ephesians 2:1,2).
The Bible tells us that we are spiritually dead in our fallen nature until we come to the Lord in repentance and faith. The Lord saw our lost and hopeless condition and came to our rescue in a plan that cost Him greatly. He sent His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, to pay the debt owed for our sins and rescue us from our fallen condition. He did this through His sacrificial death on the Cross.
[I was lost and undone without my God or His Son when he reached down His Hand for me. (When He Reached Down His Hand For Me – Composed by G.E. Wright)]
Mankind, without God, is the walking dead – spiritually. Left to our own devices we face an eternity in Hell. The following verses show us what takes place when we come to the Lord by faith:
“And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh (the walking dead – separated from God), has He quickened together with Him (made spiritually alive – born-again), having forgiven all your trespasses (the sin debt owed was paid at the cross); blotting out the handwriting of Ordinances that was against us (the commandments that we could not keep), which was contrary to us (God’s Law was against us because we could not obey it), and took it out of the way (the penalty was removed), nailing it to the Cross (Christ fulfilled the Law and we live by faith in His finished work)” (Colossians 2:13,14 & ESB and my commentary).
I know this was a lot of scripture that we just covered, but it shows us exactly where we are without God and what happens to us upon faith in God’s plan of Redemption. As has been mentioned previously, we were lost in our fallen nature and unable to obey or please God. The Lord rescued us from our spiritually dead condition and made us alive spiritually and seated us in Heavenly places in Christ as the following verses tell us.
“But God, Who is rich in mercy (by way of the cross), for His great love wherewith He loved us (His love for us shines brightly at the cross). Even when we were dead in sin ( another reference to our being dead men walking), has quickened us together with Christ (newness of life due to Calvary), by Grace you are saved (makes it clear that it is a gift of God by faith); and has raised us up together (spiritually we were raised up with Christ at the Resurrection of Christ), and made us sit together in Heavenly places (all due to the cross) in Christ Jesus” (Ephesians 2:4-6 with commentary).
The Gospel the Lord graciously offers is for whosoever will come to Him in faith. The Lord extends His offer of forgiveness, and Eternal life with Him, today. It’s been almost 2000 years since He died on the cross. Just as judgment came to the pre-flood world of that time; judgment will come to our world in the future. The Bible says that today is the day of Salvation, which means that we are not promised tomorrow. As we enter this new year, we are that much closer to the time of judgment prophesied in the Bible. We must make our way to the Lord. He waits with open arms for all those that hear the clarion call of the Gospel and come to the God that loves us with an everlasting love and Who does not want to see anyone perish.
I believe I write these articles with a calling from the Lord. I am an evangelist at heart and sense His great love for His creation. I also sense the urgency by which the Holy Spirit is drawing and convicting the lost to come to the safe waters. Come to the Kingdom of our Great God. Receive freely the Salvation He offers. We were all walking dead before the Lord found us. It is my prayer that those that do not know the Lord will hear His call today and come. We’ll close with words from the last chapter of the last book of the Bible:
“And the Spirit and the Bride say, come. And let him who hears say, come. And let him who is athirst come. And whoever will, let him take of the water freely ” (Revelation 22:17 & ESB and my commentary)
The following, are the final recorded Words of our Lord and Savior and the response from all those that await His Coming: “Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus” (Revelation 22:20).
Always Remember,
God Loves You!
