There Is No Greater Promise Than This!

“Let not your hearts be troubled: you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s House are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there you may be also” ( Matthew 14:1-3).
The Lord made this promise to us just prior to His crucifixion. He knew things would become increasingly worse in this world due to sin, and did not want us to be troubled as the time for His return approached. These words of our Lord are from almost two thousand years ago and the time of His coming for those who love Him draws nearer each day. In these verses, the Lord shows His love and care for us and assures us that He will come for us and that He is preparing a place for us so that we can be with Him for eternity. His coming for us is what is known as the Rapture of the church. The Apostle Paul gives us a glimpse of what will happen when the Lord does come for us in the following verses of Scripture:
“Behold I show you a mystery; we shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed. In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trump will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.” (1 Corinthians 15:51,52).
The Apostle is telling us here that we will not all die. Those believers who have passed away will be raised “incorruptible” and we who are alive at the time will be “changed.” This speaks of all believers, both those alive and those that have passed on – all will receive glorified bodies. What an encouragement this is to know that there will be a generation of believers that will not die but be changed in the twinkling of an eye. Could we be that generation? The Apostle gives us further insight into the Rapture in the following verses of Scripture:
“For the Lord, Himself shall descend from Heaven with a shout, with the voice of the Archangel, and with the Trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words” (1 Thessalonians 4:16-18).
Paul is telling us here that Jesus will come for us with the “Trump of God.” The trump will sound and all believers both alive and dead will meet Him “in the air.” Jesus will not at the time of the Rapture come all the way to Earth but will call us to Himself in the air. What a sight that will be! Once the Rapture occurs; we will be with the Lord forever. Paul encourages us to comfort each other with the knowledge that the Lord will come “in the twinkling of an eye” and with the “Trump of God.” This will be sudden and could happen at any time. Again, might we be the generation that is alive to witness, and be part of the great catching away! It is entirely possible considering the times we live in.
Jesus knew the world would be experiencing troubling times just prior to His return for us. That’s why He told us in our introductory verse “Let not let your hearts be troubled.” The Apostle Paul gives further assurance from the Lord that we will be taken out prior to the “wrath” that will come upon this world in the Great Tribulation. In 1 Thessalonians 5:9, he tells us that “God has not appointed us to wrath.” The Lord Jesus in the Book of Revelation gives us even further assurance that we will be taken out prior to the judgment that is coming on this world.
“Because you have kept My command to persevere, I also will keep you from the hour of trial (the Great Tribulation) which shall come upon the whole world, to test those who dwell, on earth. Behold, I come quickly (suddenly in the Rapture)… (Revelation 3:10).
So the Lord, in all these verses of Scripture, wants us to know without a doubt that He is coming for us in the Rapture prior to the coming judgment. It will be sudden and “in the twinkling of an eye.” We will then be with our Lord forever. We have great things to look forward to. The following verse sheds further light on what will happen after the Rapture:
“Beloved, now are we sons of God, and it does not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when He shall appear, we shall be like Him; for we shall see Him as He is” (1 John 3:2).
Sin will not be an issue for us any longer when He comes in the Rapture and removes all believers from this fallen world. We will see Jesus just as He is and the Word says “we will be like Him” which is a reference to us having our glorified bodies. And we will be with Him for eternity as sons and daughters of God and co-heirs with Christ. There can be no greater promise than this!
We shall see Jesus, just as they saw Him
There is no greater promise than this
When He returns in power and glory
We shall see Jesus, we shall see Jesus, just as He is!
