A Wake-Up Call

We Are One Heartbeat Away From Our Eternal Destination

“For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?” (Mark 8:36,37)

These two verses speak of the value of our souls. Our soul is eternal and therefore is worth more than anything else we might compare it to in this world. We could gain the whole world and it would not begin to compare with the value of our soul.

Many live their lives with little thought of eternity, but eternity is something we will all face in the future. The word eternity means forever. Our short time on this Earth cannot compare with what is ahead for us. If we do not consider its importance; we are but fools. We have a choice to make in this life. The Lord has given us free will and the decision we make today will determine where we spend eternity. Joshua said it well in the following verse:

Choose for yourselves this day who you will serve… but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord” (Joshua 24:15).

There are only two groups of people in this world. Those that serve the Lord and the lost who serve the god of this world (Satan). This may seem like a harsh statement, but it’s true. If we are not walking with the Lord; we have chosen to go a false way. We must seek the Lord and the Way He has provided for us in his mercy and grace. The Lord has given us the Way, or the Path, to Life Eternal with Him!

If you were to die today; do you know if you would go to Heaven? The Bible tells us that we can know that when we die we will be in Heaven with the Lord. Some would say that this is impossible to know and that saying that we do know is prideful. Actually, it is the exact opposite of pride. We can know that we are going to Heaven, not because of any great things we might do, but because of what Jesus did for us at Calvary. This is the path the Lord has provided for us. The Apostle John encourages us with the following verse:

“These things have I written unto you who believe in the Name of the Son of God; that you may know that you have Eternal Life, and that you may believe on the Name of the Son of God” (1 John 5:13).

We cannot save ourselves no matter what we might do in this life. The Bible says “There is none righteous (right with God), no, not one” and “For all have sinned, and come short of the Glory of God.” James tells us the following in his epistle: “For whoever shall keep the whole Law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.” One sin in our lives is enough to disqualify us for an eternity with the Lord. We have a fallen nature and cannot save ourselves. It is prideful to think that we can offer up our works and lives to God as acceptable.

The Lord saw our desperate plight and provided a way to be forgiven of our sins and to restore the fellowship with Him that was lost in the Garden when Adam and Eve sinned against Him. His answer was to send His Son to die on a cruel Cross to pay the sin debt and restore the lost fellowship with Him. The following verse tells us the way to Salvation:

“That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus (that he died for us on the Cross and that He is Lord), and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved. For with the heart one believes unto Righteousness; and with the mouth, confession is made unto Salvation” (Romans 10:9,10).

The Bible makes it clear that “..Whosoever calls on the Name of the Lord shall be saved.” So, the Lord looks for faith in what Jesus accomplished at Calvary to judge us Righteous in His sight. It is an imputed Righteousness all due to Christ. Although He certainly wants us to live good lives, and we do that through faith in Christ’s sacrificial death on the cross and the power of the Holy Spirit; It is not about what we do, but what we believe.

We are all a heartbeat away from our eternal destiny. Don’t let the cares of this world keep you from the One Who loves you and died on the Cross to prove that love. We are not promised tomorrow. Today is the day of Salvation. If you do not know the Lord; I have included The Sinner’s Prayer at the end of this article. This prayer has been prayed by millions through the years. I pray that this has been a wake-up call for all those that do not know the Lord. The following lyrics from a well-known hymn say it well:

Amazing Grace

Amazing grace how sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost, but now I’m found
Was blind but now I see
.

The Sinner’s Prayer

Dear God in Heaven,

I come to you in the Name of Jesus. I’m sorry for my sins. The way I’ve lived, the things I’ve done. Please forgive me. Cleanse me with your Precious Blood from all unrighteousness. With my mouth, I confess Jesus Christ. In my heart, I believe God raised Jesus from the dead, and He is alive. This very moment I accept Jesus Christ as the savior of my soul. And I make Him the Lord of my life. According to your Word which cannot lie: I am washed, I am forgiven. I am saved. Amen.

If you prayed The Sinner’s Prayer and believed what you prayed; you can know, according to God’s Word, that you are saved and have Eternal Life.

Always Remember,

God Loves You!
