Do You Hear His Voice?
“The voice of one crying in the wilderness: Prepare the way of the Lord; make straight in the desert a highway for our God” (Isaiah 40:3).
Isaiah gave this prophecy regarding the coming of John the Baptist some 700 years prior to the Baptist’s ministry. John came to call Israel to repentance in preparation for the coming of Israel’s Messiah. Unfortunately, Israel, as a whole, rejected and crucified the Lord of Glory.
John referred to himself as the voice of “One crying in the wilderness.” His mission was to “Make straight the way of the Lord.” John, in fact, called the nation to repentance and his ministry proceeded the coming of our Lord. In pointing ahead to the imminent arrival of Jesus on the scene, he was a witness to the “light” that would soon come. He announced that the One coming would manifest Grace and Truth as the only Begotten Son of God. Chapter one of the Gospel of John states the following regarding the coming of the Lord:
“He came to His own, and His own recieved Him not. But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the Sons of God” (John 1:12).
As has been mentioned, Israel of that day rejected Him and killed Him. His story (the Gospel), the account of His life, ministry, death and Resurrection has been told for some 2000 years. This testimony calls all who hear it to repentance and proclaims the soon return of our Lord in the Rapture of the church and the Second Coming. Just as John the Baptist announcement of the Lord’s soon coming happened just as prophesied by Isaiah, the promises our Lord made of His Second Advent will come about as promised. Of this we can be certain.
So what will our response be to the Lord’s call to repentance and the proclamation of His soon return. Israel rejected their Messiah. Our world today has the same decision before them. John cried out in the wilderness. Our fallen world reflects the sadness of that condition. Those that do not know the Lord are living in a lost state- a wilderness. The voice of the Lord cries out to all those who have ears to hear proclaiming His love for the world in sending His Son to pay the price so that the sin debt could be paid, our sins forgiven, and have fellowship restored with the Lord.
“God so loved the world, that He gave His only Begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have Everlasting Life ” (John 3:16).
You will notice that those that do not hear His voice calling out to them through His Word, will perish. Again, Israel rejected the Lord and judgment came in AD 70 when the Romans destroyed Jerusalem and they were dispersed throughout the known world of the day. (The Bible tells us that all Israel will be saved at the time of the Second Coming.) Our fate hangs on what we do with Jesus. Do we make Him Lord and Savior, or do we reject the Gospel and suffer an eternity in Hell. That is the question for all those living today, Are you Listening? Do you hear His voice calling out to you? We’ll close with the Lord’s gracious invitation to all those that come the way of this earthly life.
“Turn to Me and be saved all the ends of the earth! For I am God, and there is no other” (Isaiah 45:22)
Prayer Changes Things
“For the eyes of the Lord are on the Righteous, and His ears are open unto their prayers…” (1 Peter 3:12).
The Lord hears our prayers and is faithful to answer.
